Burgundy Tasting Wednesday 17th July 2024
Please join us for an evening of fine Burgundy paired with Otto’s sumptuous dishes on Wednesday 17th July.
We are delighted to be joined by Burgundy expert Tom Bird, to talk us through the wines.
Tom heads up the private client team at Burgundy-focused Wine Merchant Stannary Wines and has been a supporter at Otto’s since we opened.
We’ll have Albert Bichot’s excellent Blanc de Blancs to kick off proceedings, and two superb whites with the starter.
Tom says of Pernot Belicard’s Bourgogne it’s ‘Puligny without the price tag’ and we’ll compare this with a rare white Savigny-Les-Beaunes. Alongside the neighbouring Pernand-Vergelesses, these Northeast facing vineyards have produced some excellent wines in the recent hotter vintages.
For red, we’ll see a brace from the outstanding 2016 vintage, a year Tom argues is the finest since 2010. Auxey and Monthelie are two satellite vintages of Meursault, where both have seen a dramatic rise in quality and consistency in recent years.
We should be in for a treat.
We finish with a luscious Mosel Riesling Auslese from the ‘spice garden’ of the Urzig.
